Why You Should Know How To Sharpen A Chainsaw Working with power tools can be very dangerous, especially if you do not know how to maintain them. One of the most important ways of keeping a cutting tool in top shape is by ensuring it is always sharp. Knowing how to sharpen a chainsaw will prevent accidents and keep you safe.
Some people do not even realize when their saw needs to be maintenance because it is such a powerful tool. The key is not whether or not the tool can cut, but rather how it cuts. When a power saw cuts it sends wood flecks flying through the air. If you notice big pieces of wood flying from the saw, it is in top shape.
There will always be powder flying from a tree when you cut it down, but there should not be too much. Too much powder means your saw is making small cuts rather than large, powerful ones. Powder means it is time to sharpen.
Due to its odd shape, a chainsaw must be sharpened with a small file. The file has to be the perfect size so it can fit into the various grooves. Look at the box your tool came in to see what size file to choose.
There are many helpful websites online that will help you choose a file. They will explain how to look at your saw and estimate what size file you need. People working at a tool store should also know how to advise you on a file.
You can keep your file in a drawer or a tool box. Do not misplace it because you will have to use it often to maintain the quality and safety of your tool. Keep it in an easily accessible place to facilitate easy access.
Learning how to sharpen a chainsaw is easy and important. Never attempt to do so without reading instructions or having a professional show you how. Once you have completed the process, you are on your way to safer yard work.
